I. Tools Needed
Mabkhara Arabic Incense Burner (ceramic/metal/copper are all acceptable)
Quick-burning Charcoal (small round charcoal for incense burning)
Bakhoor Incense Blocks
Tweezers/Clamps
II. Standard Procedure (Traditional Arabic Method)
1. Light the Charcoal Block
Place the charcoal block in the center of the burner.
Use a lighter/igniter to light the edges.
Wait for the charcoal to turn red and the surface to turn white ash (5–10 minutes).
2. Place the Bakhoor Incense Block
Use tweezers to take 1–2 small pieces of Bakhoor.
Place them on the red-hot charcoal.
Smoke and fragrance will immediately begin to emerge.
3. Begin Incense Burning (Core Ritual)
Hold the incense burner in front of you, allowing the smoke to rise.
Clothing, headscarves, and hair can be gently brought close to the smoke.
Arabic Hospitality Etiquette:
For guests' clothing: Circle the incense burner once.
For a room: Place in the center of the living room for 5–10 minutes.
4. Extinguish/ Storage
When not in use:
Cover and let it smolder until it's completely extinguished
Or sprinkle a little fine sand to extinguish it. Unburnt charcoal can be reused next time.
